Name:
Jonathan McCloud
Age:
23
Gender:
Male
Race:
Amestrian
Occupation:
Military, Major
Personality:
Fun-loving, outgoing, and ambitious! There is no mission that Jonathan feels he cannot accomplish. He's easy to get along with and even easier to trust and rely on, but some just don’t want to know him closer, although he can seem a bit excitable and weird at times. He's fairly random and unpredictable most of the time.
In addition to his quirks, he is an extremely dedicated individual whose sole dream to surpass the Fuhrer or at least befriend him, still he has one other clear target in his life…becoming a legend that generations will remember. As such, he is determined to never fail, no matter who it is for or how dangerous the battle might be. If anyone ever steps in the way of his dream, he will undoubtedly deal with them in a harshly and swiftly without restraint.
The most notable out of all of Johnathan’s traits is his extremely corny sense of humor. He's never above making a pun of cracking a really obvious and equally lame joke. As easily liked a person as he is, this one factor tends to irritate people more then anything else.
Physical Description:
Birthplace:
Ishabal, although he doesn’t show any Ishballian features.
History:
Although he was born in Ishbal he lacks it’s races blood that should originally comes from his mother, Sarah Falcon, who met his father Wallace McCloud when she was visiting some friends in Amestris. After they became friends and kept in touch, they had spent some time together, and Sarah was eventually able to accept Wallaces’s profession as a alchemist and officer of the Military. After time had allowed their relationship to strengthen, they wedded one another. They often thought about getting a son but instead adopted a boy in Ishbal that didn’t seem to have Ishballian parents. The war in Ishbal, however, forced Wallace to leave on Jonathan’s seventh birthday; he had been transferred at the start of the war to the Headquarters in the East to continue his research where it would be more accessible to the regiments battling in Ishbal. Jonathan and his mother survived on their own for another three years, but Sarah became clinically depressed because of the death and suffering her people were experiencing, and one day decided she could bear the anguish of it no longer.
After she committed suicide, Jonathan became a ward of the State since his father was still involved in the war in Ishbal. At first he was shuffled from one foster home to another of State personnel and their families, the reason they didn’t want him was still unknown. Slowly he learned bits of alchemy from those he stayed with, even if it was never long and at one point ran away from home and met the ex-Alchemist Leon Salvatore, who cared for him for a brief time and taught him his alchemy-based illusions. But because Leon was not a credited or recognized alchemist, Jonathan’s alchemy has many flaws and limitations. Eventually the State repossessed him, and he did his best to enhance his alchemic skills so he could try and win some respect for himself from those who were prejudiced against him. He was first enrolled as a soldier in the military by force since he was still under the State’s custody, and slowly worked to scrounge some prestige for himself, however slight. He tried hard to get his rank up high and always succeeded even if it seemed to take years for this to happen. He was promoted to the rank of a Major. Although some speculated that he paid the Military money sent from his father to bribe the Fuhrer into giving him a promotion. This is why most of his man dislike being talked at by him or even looking at him with a smile that they often hesitate to show. Back when the war ended and his father didn’t return, he was told his father had died during the last conflict that ended the rebellion, but he could never bring himself to believe this. Often he asked the personal for the last conflict but was always rejected with the sentence; “Sorry, but those documents are meant to be read only by the Fuhrer himself. Or at least through a special invitation, but otherwise no one may even hold that thing in their hands.”
From that time he was driven to either befriend the Fuhrer or surpass him. It is a hard goal but he is determined to find out what he needs to know, even if he has to kill more man then the Ishbal Massacre had exterminated.
Goal in Life:
To find out if his father is truly dead, or not. Also he seems to be determined to either surpass the Fuhrer or do something for which he will be remembered for generations.
Excelled Skills/Alchemy:
He specializes specifically in illusion alchemy (as mentioned above.) He uses paper talismans with transmutation circles drawn on them so he can ‘anchor’ them to wherever he wants them. In rare cases, such as when it is raining, he has a pair of gloves with the same circles etched on them, though he cannot move himself without deactivating the illusions in this situation. His alchemy utilizes the light he has available by bending it to create copies of whatever is nearby; specifications on the talismans control how wide an area is ‘cloned’ into an illusionary state, as well as how many illusions there will be and how they are situated. The illusions themselves cannot move when they are formed; these illusions appear solid but are actually just the light reflecting off the water vapor in the air, so they have almost no physical substance and can be easily interrupted. The less light he has to work with, the weaker his illusions appear, and in the darkness his alchemy is utterly useless. He uses this technique primarily to confuse his opponents and then relies on successfully launching a surprise attack in the form of hand-to-hand combat, or utilizing weaponry. He was trained as a soldier before he pursued alchemy, so he favors physical fighting with the aid of alchemy to confuse his enemies.
